Ahh yes, 2015. I remember it like it was yesterday…not.
I do remember a couple of things about 2015, though. I remember adopting my dog, Wally, that summer, starting my junior year of college that fall, and living in a house that felt like my first home. I didn’t own it, but my parents did.
They had purchased that house on East Blake in September of 2014 with the intent to renovate it and rent it out to Ohio State students. The (first) renovation of the Blake house was a whole family affair. My parents, my sister, and I were all hands on deck painting, refinishing, and cleaning. I actually attribute this to being my very first reno project.
I lived in the house during my junior and senior years of college, as did many other friends and family members who attended OSU over the following years. Fast-forward to 2023, and my younger sister bought that same home from my parents.
Since moving in, my sister has completed a number of renovation projects herself (what can I say, home improvement runs in the family!). But when it came to the redesign of her guest room, we decided to work more closely to create something special.
The guestroom was previously carpeted and surrounded by cracking/bowing plaster walls that desperately needed replacing. My sister did the heavy lifting: ripping out the plaster, installing new drywall, removing the carpet, and refinishing the wood throughout the room (makes me tired just thinking about it!).

After selecting a rug that she liked, my sister let me come in and help with the fun part: decorating and staging!

I feel fortunate that I frequently get to visit a place that I used to call home, and even more so that I have gotten to see it throughout many different stages of life.
From its initial renovation as a student rental to its current life as my sister's home, our little house on East Blake has truly evolved.
Thanks for reading and catch you next time!
